PH 80, large table lamp by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen in 1974 – gorgeous Danish Modern opal table light in RARE excellent vintage condition.
A very appealing shaped table lamp with a round black ABS base, from where a chrome plated stem emerge and carries three high gloss opal acrylic shades with a black and red polycarbonate reflector on top. The reflector ensures a warmth in the ambiance, while the opal shades softens the illumination and direct most of the light downwards, making for a very pleasant room lighting.
The PH 80 was put into production by Louis Poulsen after Henningsen’s death, as a celebration of what would have been his 80th birthday (hence the name). It is based on the principle of the reflective three-shade system – invented by Poul Henningsen in 1925-1926. Instead of glass, Louis Poulsen used opal acrylics to make a less expensive product with the same lighting qualities as a glass fixture. It was released in two models – a table lamp and a floor lamp, the latter is still in production, whereas the table lamp is no longer in production.
Emitting the trademark PH glare-free light – soft and diffused – it has endless uses in the stylish modern home. An impressive beauty alight as well as idle.
