This rare pair of armchairs was designed by Elias Svedberg and produced by Nordiska Kompaniet (NK) in the 1940s. The rounded, curved lines and the tufted interior on the back and sides give the chair a refined appearance. The elegant shape of the chairs is further enhanced by the striking tapered legs in stained birch.
The comfortable chairs have been upholstered in a light grey fabric, the tufted back and sides are finished with leather covered buttons and the front of the seat is accentuated by leather piping.
Elias Svedberg (1913-1987) was a Swedish architect and designer, best known for his work for Stockholm’s high end department store Nordiska Kompaniet (NK). Svedberg started working for NK in 1944 and headed the company’s interior design department from 1952-1961. Additionally, Svedberg designed for a number of pre-war exhibitions including the World’s Fair in New York. He was also a contributing member to the Svenska Slöjdföreningen (Swedish Society), a revered crafts and design organization dedicated to promoting and perpetuating high quality craftsmanship in Swedish design.
