Biography. Boris Sipek was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1949. From 1964-68 he studied furniture design at the School of Arts and Crafts in Prague, moving to Germany in 1968. He then studied architecture at the University of Applied Arts in Hamburg from 1969-1974. He later received his doctorate in architecture at the Technical University of Delft, Netherlands.
In 1983, he moved to Amsterdam and opened his own architecture and design studio.
In 1987 he had a solo exhibition at Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Lyon in 1987. In 1992,he was appointed as Court Architect in Prague by President Vaclav Havel. He was appointed as professor of design at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna in 1998.
In 2002, he had a solo exhibition ‘Ame fantasque du design’ Centre Tcheque, Paris and in 2003, opened his solo exhibition in Vienna.
He has works in the permanent collections of various museums around the world, inlcuding MoMa, Museum for Decorative Arts in Lyon and Paris, France, Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Switzerland and Design Museum in London, United Kingdom. Designed products for Alessi, Cleto Munari, Driade, Maletti, Vitra, Leitner.
