An armchair in the ‘Chinese Chippendale’ manner.
The design for the frame of this chair is drawn from Plate XXVII in Thomas Chippendale’s ‘The Gentleman and Cabinet Maker’s Directory; having square block footed front legs with extensive piercing, the rear legs of ‘kick away’ form; the arms decorated with a ‘spider web; design; the panelled back within a frame work incorporating oriental swastikas, and a toprail surmounted with a pagoda form cap.
