It’s like a vestige in the creeks. Like an unsurprising mystery, an indatable artefact, past or future, but of which one would know, in oneself, the intimate essence without naming it. It is like the daily presence of a dream world, like drawing the archaeological map of a fantasized, durable and mineral civilization.
Drawing on the common background of an ideal Antiquity, Atelier Carlès Demarquet offers a series of fossil objects whose use, intuitive without being obvious, is more suggested than imposed. Shaping wood to scramble its material, animal or plant, coral, reef or shell, they work to make it both millennial and the test of time.
From their Marseille workshop, the two craftsmen perpetuate a tradition of woodworking which is deeply rooted in the Mediterranean art of living. They design, in unique pieces or limited series, modern, timeless, solar and aquatic furniture and objects. Like a panorama of a forgotten island, an underwater arch where lost time still lives.
