An item redolent of another age, this cake stand was originally made for afternoon tea, scones, petit fours, cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off, crumpets and slices of cake. I think of Fortnum and Mason’s Fountain room and their Welsh Rarebit. It is excellent for Indian/Lebanese food, desserts in general. It provides a pleasing verticality and makes extra space at a small table. A bread plate fits in on each tier handsomely.
