A Chinese antique daybed known as “Kang” or “Luohan bed”, circa 19th century. In the Ming Style but made in the late Qing dynasty. It can also be used as a bespoken oversized coffee table for the right interior space. Constructed with a highly grained elm wood (Jumu) with subtly carved fringes and legs featuring exposed pegs on the side. The top was inlaid with lacquered bamboo stripes, suggesting that the bed was made for the summer use in mind, with its origin in southern China.
Attractive patina throughout with lots of charming evidences of age and wears.
